The Digital Matte Painter is responsible for painting photo real environments and landscapes. This artist will paint photo environments, elements, and textures for matching into live action plates or standing as their own matte painting plates.
MAIN DUTIES:
The Digital Matte Painter will create environment, character, and FX concept art within feature film production timeline. They will create photorealistic digital paintings using 2D and 3D techniques. They will create style frame and paint overs to establish the look of the sequence for other artist. They will setup and apply 3D projection in Nuke and Maya, as well as create and publish slap-comp in Nuke.
WHAT YOU BRING:
The ideal candidate will bring expert working knowledge of Photoshop, Nuke and other applicable VFX software. They will bring experience creating digital paintings of photo-realistic environments based on concept art and/or photo reference and will be able to demonstrate experience. They will possess a strong understanding of light, color and perspective and possess excellent artistic communication skills, as well as an excellent eye for detail. They will also bring the following:
Have a good understanding of 2D and 3D workflows.
Adaptability and eagerness to learn new skills, techniques, and workflow (pipeline).
Experience meeting tight deadlines while retaining a high quality of work.
Experience with Houdini, Maya, Blender or similar are considered an asset.
